Going from Oakland, to Morocco, to Med School
Chelsea Robbins β19 is a first generation student from Oakland, Maine and from the moment she stepped foot onto the ΒιΆΉΒγΑΔ campus, she knew ΒιΆΉΒγΑΔ was where she wanted to be.
As the first person in her family to attend university, it almost didnβt happen due to the difficulties college tuition posed. Thankfully, she was able to receive aid through the Hearst Foundation Scholarship.βThe scholarship has really helped me as I didnβt know how I was going to afford school. It was like a blessing to receive the scholarship for all four years,β she explains. After graduating this upcoming year, Chelsea also hopes to continue onto medical school with the goal of becoming a pediatrician.
During the summer before her senior year, Chelsea has been volunteering as an orientation leader helping students feel as welcomed on campus as she did when she first arrived on campus. She also works at the global desk in Ripich Commons. She loves encouraging curious students to take advantage of the opportunities the school affords them, often describing her own experience studying abroad at ΒιΆΉΒγΑΔβs Morocco campus.
βThe scholarship that I received made the difference for me getting to ΒιΆΉΒγΑΔ...I want to thank the Hearst foundation for my scholarship every year, it has made a world of difference and Iβm not sure I could be at ΒιΆΉΒγΑΔ without it.β
