ΒιΆΉΒγΑΔβs Biddeford Campus Center exhibits Pop Surrealism works by Michael A. Evans

An exhibition of paintings by Pop Surrealism/New Contemporary artist Michael A. Evans is being featured at the ΒιΆΉΒγΑΔβs Biddeford Campus Center through Oct. 29.
Evansβ works, created in acrylic paints and mixed media, represent a unique style that he has dubbed βRubberhose Surrealism.β Using the style of cartooning that originated in the 1930s called βRubberhose,β most notably pioneered by artist Max Fleischer, Rubberhose animation emphasizes a sense of fluidity, marked by flowing curves that lack typical skeletal structure and articulation.
βCartoons are my art of choice because of its laymanβs stance in art,β said Evans. βItβs a form of art that everyone has a familiarity with. Thus, you can convey various ideas and concepts to a wider group of people.β
Evans, who names his influencers as Joe Coleman, Hieronymus Bosch, Ed βBig Daddyβ Roth, Katsuhiro Otomo, and Junko Mizuno, as well as jazz, hip-hop, and street art, says that his work represents βthe human tendency to stumble into vice due to our inability to see life as a surreal state of existential absurdity.β
The exhibit is free and open to the public. Masks are required indoors for all visitors to ΒιΆΉΒγΑΔβs campuses. The Campus Center is located at 11 Hills Beach Road, Biddeford, Maine. Hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. For more information, contact Diane Noble by email at dbmn27@maine.rr.com or phone (207-284-6394).
