The ΒιΆΉΒγΑΔ’s College of Osteopathic Medicine is training the next generation of primary and geriatric care providers, according to a February 20, 2016 article in the Bangor Daily News

The article, β€œWho will care for aging Mainers?” highlighted the need for geriatric care for Maine’s aging population. ΒιΆΉΒγΑΔ is working to meet that need by preparing students for careers in primary care and geriatrics. According to the article, 60 percent of ΒιΆΉΒγΑΔ COM graduates go on to primary care and students studying all health professions are exposed to geriatrics. β€œWe ensure a great deal of exposure to geriatrics in the classroom and through clinical experiences,” said Kathyrn Brandt, D.O. '97, MMEL '11, professor, chair of primary care and interim chair of geriatrics. β€œEspecially in rural areas, where we practice across the age spectrum, it is really important that any doctor know these things.”
