ΒιΆΉΒγΑΔ announces winners of 2016 Arts and Sciences Undergraduate Research and Scholarship Symposium

On May 6, 2016, ΒιΆΉΒγΑΔ held its 16th annual Arts and Sciences Undergraduate Research and Scholarship Symposium. More than 200 undergraduate students participated in this yearβs symposium, which comprised an art display, 49 posters and 40 oral presentations.
Teresa Dzieweczynski, Ph.D., associate professor and coordinator of Undergraduate Research, stated, βIt was incredible to see the products of the studentsβ hard work and to see so many different disciplines representedβ¦I appreciate the studentsβ willingness to present their research, the willingness of the faculty to mentor these students, and the faculty and staff to participate in the event.β
First prize in the Oral Presentation category went to Brittney Logan (Animal Behavior, β16) for her project βService Dogs Paws and Personality.β The runner-up was Megan Perry (Biochemistry and Applied Mathematics, β16) with βExploring the Computational Potential of Cyclin-Dependent Kinases.β
Rebecca Sherrier (Psychology, β19) won first place in the Artistic Exhibit category for βMomento MoriβA Reflection of Mortality.β
In the Poster Presentation category, Jessica Kane (Animal Behavior, β17) took top honors with βSide Effects May Include: Female Siamese Fighting Fish Avoid Males Exposed to the Estrogen Mimic Ethinylestradiol Regardless of Female Exposureβ while Dylan Fletcher (Biological Sciences /Political Science minor, β17), Lauren Gileau (Nursing, β16), Ryan Camire (Nursing, β15) and Shea Goudreau, B.S., β15 (Medical Biology-Pre-Physician Assistant Track/Latin American Studies minor) were the runners-up for their project, βLactic Acid Bacteria Reduce Salmonella Javiana-induced Epithelial Cell Cytotoxicity and Decrease Pathogen Virulence Gene Expression.β
Winners received certificates and monetary awards.
