Artwork by Michael Vickery on display at Campus Center

β€œProgressions in Time and Space:  Traditional and 3D-printed Media,” a collection of artwork by Michael Vickery, will be on display at the ΒιΆΉΒγΑΔ’s Biddeford Campus Center from December 3, 2013 to January 15, 2014.

Vickery is an adjunct professor in the Department of Arts and Communications at the ΒιΆΉΒγΑΔ.  He is also the simulation and technology specialist for the University’s College of Osteopathic Medicine.

He has worked in a plethora of media, including photography, printmaking, oil and acrylic, pen and ink, airbrush, pencil, glass blowing, digital design, film, animation, and most recently 3D printing.

Aside from his 3D modeling and animation training, Vickery is predominantly self-taught, though he was guided and mentored throughout the years by his late uncle and noted artist, Paul Plumer of Hallowell.

β€œI find inspiration from a variety of sources,” said Vickery.  β€œSometimes it’s just a beautiful natural setting.  Other times it’s an urban scene.  There is an uneasy diametric energy between the two.  Also, directly or indirectly, some pieces speak to our estranged relationship with our natural world, our perilous commodification thereof, and the implications of our reliance on and faith in technology.”

Vickery was born in Maine and grew up on Frenchman’s Bay, where, as a young boy, he developed a strong relationship with the natural world.  He began representing his ideas about nature in young adulthood through drawing, painting, and making.
